Virtual field trips google1/21/2024 Both of those have the potential to get cheap Google hardware in schools, from which students would naturally benefit by complimentary content experiences. It’s one of the many markets Google is pursuing with its social strategy, but it’s one that could have the biggest future impact, when viewed in tandem with its low-cost Nexus device and Chrome OS initiatives. Boise State put together this fully interactive virtual field trip with text, photos, audio, and video about the history of music. Google clearly wants to encourage education to adopt Hangouts, and by extension, Google+. The star of the show is the behind-the-scenes tour of the Johnson Space Center. Upcoming trips over the rest of the month include virtual photo walks and museum tours provided by National Geographic and others. ![]() The first three are happening today, where Seattle Aquarium staff will take classes participating underwater the Minnesota Zoo explores the Black Bear and their habit of sleeping through the colder seasons and Solar Impulse, a long-range solar plane project, offers a chance to speak with the founders and learn about the design of its wing and cockpit. It offers not only those virtual excursions mentioned above (along with a number of other destinations), but also provides teachers a chance to work together on class plans and learning experiences for use both in the classroom and out.įield trips take place at specific times, since they’re actually live hosted events that offer interactive learning experiences, and teachers can check out Google’s calendar to find out more. Google says that teachers already employ its social network in classrooms, but the Connected Classrooms program is designed to make it easier for more of them to do so. Google launched Expeditions for its Cardboard VR viewer in 2015, and classrooms could get boxes of Cardboard headsets for virtual field trips. So instead of learning about pioneer times from a local drama student who has to keep the goat stables clean in addition to infotaining the kids, you’ll check out the Seattle Aquarium, Minnesota Zoo or the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You can enhance this technique if you use autohotkey, but this is for another tutorial □.Another way to generate. It also works in Google spreadsheets and I guess in other spreadsheets as well.Īnd yes, I use this technique to make my flashcards with images, audio or Youtube video embedded in html in Excel and then pass it to Anki, directly without having the problem of Anki folder. Very useful if you have a device with very little memory. You can even add several images within the same cell/flascard. I see the benefit of not having to store images in the Anki folder and embed images directly from the internet. This is to automatically insert the Imgur link inside the html quotes for images. I recommend Excel's concatenate function. You can create an automatic Excel formula to add that html code to that link. The link to the image in Imgur must be enclosed in quotation marks. I upload the images there and then get their url: "Copy image link". So, I have an alternative method to the Anki media folder The only drawback was having to put the images in the Anki folder (because they have to send me their images) to finally export the apkg. It makes it easier for me to work collaboratively with other people. I like to work in Excel and convert the rows to Anki flashcards. I don't know if this method has already been explained on Reddit, I'm too lazy to search.Great if it helps someone. Shelf life of eggs1/20/2024 ![]() If the eggs are less than a month since they were packaged, they are in excellent condition. If they were packaged on the first day of January, it’s normally printed 001. The pack date is normally the 3-digits on the carton that correspond to the day they were packaged. If it has not yet expired, then you have nothing to worry about.Īlternatively, you can confirm the packaging date. Instead of throwing them away, you should first confirm the expiration date normally printed on its carton. If you don’t know how long the eggs have been in the refrigerator, then you shouldn’t just assume that they are spoiled. How Can You Tell If the Eggs Are Still in Great Condition? Generally, eggs can last for about five weeks after their packing date in the refrigerator and over 12 months in the freezer. The carton will protect the eggs from temperature fluctuations and will prevent odor absorption. So, you should store them in their original carton, even when in the refrigerator. This can prevent condensation buildup that plays a vital role in the movement of bacteria into the eggs. The faster you refrigerate them, the longer they will last. But remember to store them correctly after purchasing them. The FDA requires that the store keeps them at a temperature of about 45 degrees Fahrenheit from the time they’re washed until they are bought. They can last even longer when stored in the freezer. When they are transported and stored correctly, eggs can last for a couple of weeks in the fridge. Eggs can last for a very long time when stored correctly, so throwing them away after they have reached their expiry date may not be a good idea. Therefore, they are always kept in the fridge to keep them fresh. Python interpreters can be configured for a new project or for the current project (you can create a new interpreter or use one of the existing interpreters). For example, you can create one virtual environment based on Python 3.6 to develop Django applications and another virtual environment based on the same Python 3.6 to work with scientific libraries. This is helpful when you need to create different virtual environments for developing different types of applications. You can create several Python interpreters based on the same Python executable. So, before configuring a Python interpreter, you need to ensure that you've downloaded Python and installed it in your system and you're aware of a path to it. When you configure a Python interpreter, you need to specify the path to the Python executable in your system. With P圜harm Professional, you can also configure interpreters to execute your Python code on remote environments by using SSH, Vagrant, Docker, Docker Compose, or WSL (only for Windows). A virtual environment consists of a base interpreter and the installed packages. You can also create a Virtualenv, pipenv, Poetry, or conda virtual environment. You can use a system interpreter that is available with your Python installation. To work with your Python code in P圜harm, you need to configure at least one Python interpreter.

Steam power and sea power1/20/2024 ![]() The use of electricity as a power source was cheaper and more efficient and was soon adopted by shipping companies and navies. ![]() RMS Mauretania became one of the first ocean liners to use the steam turbine engine. The Vandal, launched in 1903, was one of the first marine vessels to be powered by diesel. 1903Īlternatives to steam power that were more efficient and economical were being sought. She was demonstrated at the Spithead Navy Review in 1897 and transformed maritime engineering. The Turbinia became the first steam turbine-powered steamship to be built and was the fastest ship in the world at the time. The triple expansion engine was significantly more economical than other engines so became widely used in shipping. The SS Aberdeen became the first ship to be successfully powered by a triple-expansion steam engine. Steam power made up 1.1 million tons out of 5.7 million tons in the British merchant fleet. We explore the acceleration of transport innovation, from the steam engine to space travel. The SS Great Britain, the first large iron ship to be screw propelled was launched. Major shipping companies like Cunard, Inman and White Star that charted voyages and owned fleets of ships would push forward the development in marine engineering and steam power. Of the 2.3 million tons in the British merchant fleet, steam accounted for 87,000 tons.Ĭunard Lines was founded. She was however beaten to her destination by the SS Sirius who arrived in New York a day earlier. She was a wooden-hulled paddle-wheel steamship and was the largest passenger ship in the world until 1839. Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s SS Great Western undertook her maiden voyage, sailing from Bristol to New York. SS Archimedes was the first steamship driven by a screw propeller. They were also more reliable and less prone to damage than paddles as they were below the waterline. ![]() Moving away from paddles, screw propellers, fitted to the underneath of the aft of the ship, would mean that ships could travel faster than before. Inventors John Ericsson and Francis Smith re-invent the screw propeller. The use of iron and new materials in ship construction would help in the development and application of steam power at sea. The Aaron Manby became the first iron steamship to go to sea, crossing the English Channel in 1822. Douglas, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons 1821 Some contend this honour as she spent the majority of the voyage under sail rather than using steam power (steamships would also be fitted with sails as an alternative source of power).ĭiagram of the SS Savannah, fitted with sails and paddle wheels. The SS Savannah became the first steamship to sail across the Atlantic. ![]() She was the first commercially successful steamboat (built to carry passengers). The North River Steamboat, also known as the Clermont, was built and used on the Hudson River. She was launched in 1803 and was successful in towing barges along the Forth and Clyde Canal. With the sponsorship of Lord Dundas, Symington patented an engine in 1801 that would be installed in a new steamboat, the Charlotte Dundas (named for Lord Dundas’ daughter). Scottish engineer William Symington had been working on ways to improve and adapt James Watt’s engine for marine use (using paddle wheels). She was a paddle steamer whereby a steam engine would power sidewheels, or paddles, that would move the vessel through the water. 1783Īrguably the first really successful steamboat, the Pyroscaphe was built by Claude-François-Dorothée, Marquis de Jouffroy d’Abbans. Thomas Newcomen invented the first steam engine. This is a timeline exploring some of the key events in the development and use of steam power on ships and how that changed the maritime world. The Industrial Revolution led to changes in the way ships were powered. Until the 18 th century, boats and ships had largely been powered by people (rowing) or sails. Travelling across lakes, rivers and oceans has led to migration, trade, war, exploration, leisure and developments in engineering, science, medicine and technology. For thousands of years, boats and ships have been an integral part of our lives.

One evening, while continuing his search, he recognises the rock formations where his mother worked and finds the area where he lived: the Ganesh Talai neighbourhood of the Khandwa district. Saroo visits his adoptive mother, whose health is deteriorating, and learns that she is not infertile, but chose to help children in need through adoption. Saroo commences his search, but over time disconnects from Lucy and his adoptive family, overwhelmed by the thought of what his biological family must feel while he has been missing. His friends suggest he use Google Earth to search for his hometown. During a meal with some Indian friends at their home, Saroo reveals that he is not from Calcutta and that he was separated from his birth family more than twenty years ago. Twenty years later, Saroo, now a young man, moves to Melbourne to study hotel management and starts a relationship with American student Lucy. A year later, they adopt another boy, Mantosh, who has trouble adjusting to his new home and suffers from rage and self-harm. Saroo is taught basic English and moves to Hobart, Tasmania in 1987, under the care of Sue and John Brierley, where he slowly starts to settle into his new lifestyle. After two months of living near the Howrah Bridge, Saroo is taken to the police and placed into an orphanage when authorities are unable to trace his family.Īn advertisement about Saroo is placed in several local newspapers, but no one responds, though an Australian couple has become interested in adopting him. He tries to obtain a ticket home, but the attendant does not recognise the name of his village, which Saroo says is "Ganestalay". After several days the train arrives in faraway Calcutta where Saroo does not understand the local Bengali language. He searches for him on an empty train, only to fall asleep in one of the compartments and awake sometime later to find the train in motion and the doors locked.
